Identity is such a powerful thing – it’s not always discussed or mentioned, and yet without it many people’s lives seem lost. In fact suicide can be the reason for many people who live without an identity.
It is sad to see a new and subtle trend that is weaving its way into society regarding gender (or the lack of it), where a small minority are committed to taking away the identity of boys and girls. This includes toilets that are aimed at becoming trans-gender. Living without a purpose and identity is nothing more than just an existence.
It is no surprise that Jesus identity wasn’t revealed until his baptism by John. In witnessing his baptism, and the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus like a dove, plus the voice of God declaring ‘This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased’ (Matthew 3:17), John recognised the identity and purpose of Jesus. Baptism birthed identity.
Hope Church has an identity – this is revealed through its vision. We exist to introduce people to Jesus, to equip them with the tools of living out their faith effectively which will impact the world around them.
This is the reason of our existence as a church – to introduce people to Jesus, to give them an identity, a hope. This hope and identity only comes from Jesus, God’s Only Son.
