At Hope Church we have been blessed to have three students from Mattersey Hall serving us over the past academic year – Amy, David & Tom. They are all just completing their first year. We took some time to ask them about their plans for the summer and find out how the year has been for them.
What was the best bit of working at Hope?
Tom: I’ve loved engaging with the people, with the whole congregation. I’ve absolutely loved every minute of it.
Amy: I’ve also loved the people; I like the family feeling at Hope
David: It’s been great working and serving alongside Tom & Amy, getting to know them, and enjoying the journey.
What is your favourite bible verse or song?
Amy: I love the song Oceans “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, Let me walk upon the waters“
Tom: Joshua 1:9 – “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.“
David: Romans 1:16 – “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.“
What will you be doing over the summer?
David: I’ll be working with three ministers, serving in evangelism and chaplaincy.
Amy: This summer I will intern as a nurse, then I’m moving on to study medicine and become a doctor.
Tom: I’ll be working at Rock Foundation as a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, teaching them lifeskills.
What was your favourite subject at Mattersey?
Amy: New Testament Survey and John’s Gospel
Tom: Christian Mission
Dave: Lukan Perspectives
What was the hardest thing about Mattersey?
Tom: The academics were challenging initially.
Amy: Winter! Especially as I couldn’t get out and about.
Dave: Communal living, especially after having had work and independence previously.
What did you learn this year?
Amy: To be more open to more people. I have gained confidence.
Tom: My communication has improved since starting, also helped by being at Hope.
Dave: What I did know wasn’t worth knowing, what I know now has left me knowing that I don’t know much!
With all our thanks to these three young people, we are praying a great blessing upon you and God’s guidance for your future!
